On Sunday went to the Unitarian Church to allegedly hear Alastair Nicholson QC speak on "Globalisation and regaining the country we love". It ended up being a discussion on David Hicks, part of which was reprinted in The Age. All very well, but not what I'd gone to hear. Looking forward to Dr. Joe Toscano speaking on anarchism in a couple of weeks.

A couple days prior John Howard dismissed Nicholas Stern's comments on the need for Australia to act on environmental targets, citing "the national interest" (read: the interest of the ruling classes). The Age published my letter the following day.

My RPG.net reviews over the past week include Rolemaster's Character Law (1st and 2nd ed) and GURPS Religion. [livejournal.com profile] caseopaya finished her Little Fears. Along with these still running HeroQuest pbem, RuneQuest (2 games), Traveller TNE and playing in Rolemaster pbem, d20 Call of Cthulhu pbem. Will be converting one of the RuneQuest games to the almost forgotten Swordbearer

Finally met [livejournal.com profile] monkeygirldiva in RL at the extraordinary My Tai, after her various travels across the globe; also in attendence was [livejournal.com profile] neefsck. Obviously inspired by coloured drinks with little umbrellas, [livejournal.com profile] caseopaya and I are hosting a 1920s-themed cocktail party on Friday 13th April. Mention it here if you want to come along and we'll allocate a bottle for you :-)

Mention- or did you already allocate us a bottle? Or three?

Hmmn, I might drag us out of bed for the Toscano speech...

Not yet, but we're compiling the list!

It should be good. He's a very sensible anarchist indeed.

You get published a lot in the paper. That's either a testament to your letter-writing abilities, or the paper just prefers people who like to stir shit up. ;-)

I've been published a few times over the years, but the News has a policy of not printing letters from the same author more than once every 90 days. So I've learned to be selective about the issues I want to comment on.

I've noticed this; I think it's a necessary combination of both elements (i.e., one must be able to write and say something that is stirring).

So I've learned to be selective about the issues I want to comment on.

It's hard to bite one's tongue sometimes...

and i think the ability to sum up a POV in a concise manner must help get letters published! :-) I have heard that letters are sometimes edited or shortened?

It is true indeed. On occassion I have had a few words chopped, but nothing major; 250 words really is an absolute limit and 150 is better still.

I wish I had time to get back in to RPGs. Have you run the gamut of console-based classics like Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasy series? Unfortunately, I stopped playing some time after the release of Chrono Cross, so I'm completely out of the loop.

I'm not a big fan of console based games. I remember playing Final Fantasy when I was very sick once and thinking "wow, this game sucks". But I was so sick I kept playing it thinking it would get better.

Man, how dreadful that I'm going to miss out on what sounds like one of the coolest theme-parties of the year.
