Last Sunday was a traditional "Poetry & Music" service at the Unitarians. I chose Anne Bradstreet, a non-conformist of the 17th century, early feminist, and America's first published author of European descent. Her descendents included the Unitarians William Ellery Channing, Wendell Phillips, and Oliver Wendell Holmes. The poem in question was Verses upon the Burning of our House, July 18th, 1666. This coming Sunday I'll be presenting at the Unitarians on "Critical Issues Confronting Unitarian-Universalism", where I'll warn against the Scylla and Kharybdis of irrelevancy and redundancy.

The day previous I visited Paula and Craig; Paula's mother Gail was visiting with a gift - her "2008 Goddess Calendar" which featured many models in the Gaultier-style tie clothes that she specialises in. Also present was Sorscha, who has been in Japan for the last four years. Also currently in Melbourne is [livejournal.com profile] anthanum. He joined us for our Legend of the Five Rings game on Sunday, which went fantastically well with a "seven samurai" story running parallel with a stealth and subterfuge mission, combining with a "land rights for Tengu" conclusion. Last night dined with [livejournal.com profile] anthanum, [livejournal.com profile] caseopaya, [livejournal.com profile] recumbenteer (who has broken his elbow playing 'bike polo') and Louise at the delightfully named "New Wind" restaurant in Prahran.

In the past week I've finally managed to reduce and refine the lengthy section of my PhD on content censorship from 17,000 to 7,000 words and have made headway on the following chapter which is the same length. Current version 0.932 available as a PDF file. I am determined to get this under the required 100,000 words by the end of this month. Also, I have a publication pending at the peer-reviewed arts and culture journal Organdi; it should be out any day now (albeit three months late!). My review of D2: Shrine of the Kuo-Toa has been published, with a review of The Traveller Book pending. Also I have announced that Dragonlords and the Mimesis Role Playing System, will come out this June. I also took issue with opinion authors in The Age claiming a "clear link" between "male sexual aggression against women" and "exposure to pornography". Yes, there is a link - but not what they expect. On a related topic [livejournal.com profile] strangedave makes some suggestions on Internet censorship in Australia.

Sometimes little features, like security on major aircraft, gets overlooked. Hack a plane! "The vulnerability [in the new Boeing Dreamliner] comes from having the plane's in-flight internet access computer system connected to the plane's flight-safety, control and navigation network." (From [livejournal.com profile] lederhosen). From crypticide; "would the person in economy who is nmap’ing our navcom please stop, we need to steer". A picture that speaks of the problem. Apropros IT news, Bill Gates leaves the IT industry.
