Oh, I think it is a lack -- not a malicious ignorance, but a historical artefact that means that there isn't the interest in and/or the funding. There does appear to be better research on adult education than I remember from ~30 years ago, but the recognition that adulthood is not a consistent unending similarity interrupted by 'significant life events' doesn't seem to be making it in the the educational syllabi.
