Tuesday night chaired the monthly meeting of Linux Users of Victoria; Donna Williams spoke on the Drupal Association and Simon Dawes on the TYPO3 content-management system. This was preceeded by a somewhat lengthy summary of the exciting things happening in the Linux world, especially in the mobile 'phone market and UEFI. Nokia has bailed on Linux development and QT, with a split-off company, Jolla, signing deals with the largest smartphone retail chain in China with their Linux-based mobile, Meego.

Wednesday night was a small wedding ceremony for co-worker Dylan and his lovely wife Rae. He was kind enough to let me give a few words to bless their nuptials, using a short selection from Frank Herbert's Children of Dune - the event has reinvigorated my interested in celebrancy. A dinner at the local Vietnamese restaurant capped the evening. Last night was the ALP Kooyong and Higgins Trivia Night, which I had helped host. It had a strong Monty Python bias, suggested by yours truly; as it turned out it was extraordinarily good fun, certainly on of the best quiz nights I've been to (the questions were actually interesting, even those relating to sport), and one of best ALP functions as well (there's been plenty of turgid examples there). Our team, the Killer Rabbits of Caerbannog did well, but was defeated by Nudge, Wink, and the Dead Parrots.

On a further Pythonesque trajectory tomorrow will be gaming with [livejournal.com profile] hathhalla and [livejournal.com profile] ser_pounce as we continue our quest to complete the Cheese Shop sketch. The day after that I'll giving the address at the Unitarians on The Book of Amos and the Arab Spring, which I'm thoroughly looking forward to; also still arguing with the Australian Bureau of Statistics with their decision to classify Unitarians as "Other Christian" - I've brought both ANZUAA and the ICUU into the fray.
