Last Tuesday night I stepped in for Dr. Joe Toscano of the Anarchist Media Institute to speak at the Atheist Society of Melbourne. Whilst I kept the same title, I suspect my presentation on the rejection of imposed authority was a little more analytical and generous to religious-minded folk than his. I took an opportunity to hint at the relationship between social problems and commonwealth issues. On a related topic the Isocracy Network will be holding a general meeting next Saturday in Melbourne, and on next Sunday I am speaking at the Melbourne Unitarian Church on "Land Rights and Responsibilities: The Carbon Tax Debate".
Went to see Gary Numan doing the thirtieth anniversary tour of The Pleasure Principle on Saturday at The Forum with support band Severed Heads. According to their "really, truly" remarks that was the final ever show of this classic experimental electronica Australian band. I provided a concert review on Rocknerd and a setlist (fixed by someone with a better memory than myself) on Setlist.fm. Unsurprisingly ran into a few people for a brief 'hello' including
kremmen, Karen,
darviz and
strang_er.
Thursday finished up the last session of Dr. Who Adventures in Time and Space with the Dunedin Torchwood Team. We ended up on the moon, accidentally releasing the Lochnar (NSFW) which narrative demands the arrival of the daleks, obviously. Sunday was part II of the GURPS Krononuats adventure based on the scenario pack for George Alec Effinger's "When Gravity Fails", set in the very crazy Yemeni island of Socotra. On Monday will be a new session, albeit not a new generation, of Britannia-Pendragon.
I had a serious computer disaster with my aging laptop last Sunday with physical damage to the hard disk. Over the week I've been slowly rebuilding with fsck and e2fsck and various attempts to mount. It's a very slow process, marching through one inode at a time attempting recoveries. About 95% of my data has been already backed up which is always the safest strategy, but the other 5% is still worth saving. Unfortunately it does consist of a number of text files that I've put together over the past few months.
