Gatherings, Resource Tax, Isocracy Committee

Last weekend I played host to several visitors; including Chris, who was attending on his birthday (I made a giant tiramisu for all concerned), Donna, Brian (who took a good 174 photos of our house, estate, pets and surrounding grounds), and Mike (who should have a website). After a very long lunch Erica and I grabbed Brendan E., and drove to a Kerrie's new house in the green and wet (well it was that night) outer suburb of Heathmount.

With an acceptable compromise to the mining tax declared, my political attentions will now undoubtably square on to Internet filter. The tax reform establishes as a principle a tax on resources, a reduction in company tax and an orientation towards future investment; all of which are good economic policies. The actions of the mining companies during all this rather reminded me of the landowners when the Corn Law tariffs were threatened, and with an similar class interest. Their challenge will be of course when other countries start implementing it.

Tomorrow is the first committee meeting of the Isocracy Network where we plan our activities for the next quarter; the Internet filter I imagine will have a priority. After the meeting a group of atheists, skeptics, secularists and the like will be meeting to work out plans for the upcoming state election - this is also an Isocracy-sponsored event, which will perhaps see the formation of a Victorian branch of the Secular Lobby.

Hmph. The whole Resource Tax episode
should be a lesson in power relationships,
to wit - we're under corporate rule,
parliament is a farce.
I'd hardly describe the situation as "compromise",
"slapdown" would be more apt.
