Rabbit News, Refugees, Torture and Tampa, Gaming and Gaming Speech
Rabbit news:
caseopaya and I have a very cute little Netherland's Dwarf rabbit. "Astaroth" is playful, inquisitive, active and affectionate. As
doctor_k_ shows adorably cute. It is a shame I'm a allergic to the little lagamorph and have come out with a rash all over my body.
Last Sunday at the Unitarians was Clare Lincoln from the Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture. One very interesting point in her presentation was ackowledging that asylum seekers who are incarcerated in Australia often suffer mental problems which they cannot assist (as they are not refugees yet) which are significantly worsened by their period in detention. It complemented Joann Lynn's presentation the previous week from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
Further on topic, this coming Saturday is the MV Tampa memorial day. Come along between 11:30 and 11:55 assemble at the Flinders St end of the Sandridge Bridge. The procession will move to the "red stairs" at the Southbank end of the Sandridge Bridge. Activities at the red stairs include an indigenous welcome, a speech by Julian Burnside, performances by Arnold Zable, Kavisha Mazzella, Shaking the Tree, and Khalil Gudaz. Despite public opinion still opposed to leniency towards asylum seekers, once one understands how they are being treated in this country it is morally impossible to turn away from their plight.
In gaming related news played Cybernoia on Sunday. The PCs are now engaging in a military-style commando raids against the Australian army and are wanted by Interpol. I do enjoy a plot where the scale accelerates. Last Thursday I spoke at the Sea of Faith on Devils, Pagan Gods and Polyhedrons. Those who actually understood roleplaying games (whether through direct or indirect exposure) asked sensible questions and those who didn't asked ridiculous ones confusing it with computer games or "cowboys and indians". A welcome surprise attendee was Denny, who was supposed to be in Perth!

AR$GHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's the last time I am sick.
Re: ... no, you didn't just type that ... no it's just a bad dream ...
The players even considered ringing you ;-)
Re: ... no, you didn't just type that ... no it's just a bad dream ...
BUT NPC's ARE BARLEY!!!!!!!!!
/me cries
ARGH!!!!!
You bastards!
Re: ... no, you didn't just type that ... no it's just a bad dream ...
Well, the "we're hunted by Interpol" was the introduction to the session. Sorry man... Your name has been linked to too many strange events over the past few months... Dead CEOs, riots in Spotswood, hotels in Berlin going *boom*. Something had to give.
And you did fuck with the UN. ;-)
So then came the bait: "I can give you guys a new identity, wetware, but you need to hold up this truck"
Then the discovery by hacking the companies shipping files. The truck is actually a MagLev to Woomera is escorted by three helicopters, one containing a platoon of soldiers and with two jets on standby if anything goes wrong.
At that point was the realisation that the truck may be carrying a little more than expected ;-)

I like themes (the same applies for computer networks). Bunnies named after demons fits with the old alt.devilbunnies newsgroup. The rats get names relevant to clowns and ne'er-do-wells (Rogue, Vagabond, Montebanc, Harlequin, Jester)
themes
I think I've mentioned that in my previous house, our pcs were named after philosophers. I am currently using a bastard hybrid of Plato and Immanuel.
Re: themes
I used philosophers for a while. My first Pentium model computer (running Windows 95a, heaven help me) was named Diderot.
One gigabyte of storage was hardly a encyclopedia however.

(Or it might be my players just need an attitude correction class.)

It makes certain sense; larger than life characters inevitably get involved in paramilitary endeavours - the epics attest to this.
I don't think a thoroughly simulationist game of normal life would be that interesting.

There have been comments about stew. ;-)

OK, no stew then... But I can't go on with hives, antihistamines and steriod creams for ten years, can I?

I know. It's just I'll miss the gorgeous little thing, she follows me around everywhere. Not to mention the fact that I have really missed having a bunny to snuggle with :(
The caseopaya bunny is very sad at this development.

I'll miss the li'll hopper too. Evidently we'll have to give it away to someone who lives nearby or whom we visit a lot.

Have to give up bunny, had to give up laptop - what next? *pout*

Me too. It's too bad that it seems like most GMs want to reign in the storyline at that point instead of working with the material they are getting from their players :P. You excepted, apparently :).
heh ...
Re: heh ...
The entire last session was constructing a plan (which I'm sure you'll destroy at the start of the next session) ;-)
BTW L is a very bad man for messing with (temporary) NPC's this way
Heh. Your character had nothing to do with it.

I did expect it,

Did you know there is a 'world wide dice shortage' going on? You can't get gaming dice in NZ at the moment. Like, none. Our local gaming shop had, I kid you not, FIVE dice. And they were gathering dust.

A dice shortage? First I've heard of it. I wonder what's caused that? Poor returns on investment? Dice factories struck by earthquakes? Sure sounds strange..
Actually being a manufactured good there is some sense in NZ producing its own dice...
