Unitarians, Mike O'Brien, Miscellany

Looking forward to the Father Bob MacGuire concert at the Unitarians on Sunday. It has been quite a run on speakers dedicated to alleviating geniune social problems; last week was Lisa Clarke and Rowan Jamieson discussing Swags for the Homeless, and the week prior Jude Alexander on 'Alcoholism and Society', a particularly good presentation which travelled from personal experiences, to neurology, to sociological approaches.

As many people from Perth have already commented, [livejournal.com profile] mikey_ob has passed away due to a brain tumour. There are many valedictions on Facebook, and on Boardgamegeek. I particularly remember him as a board and RPG gamer, science fiction fan, bon vivant drinker and thinker, and his participation in alternative rock bands such as Botticelli's Angel. The world is certainly lesser place without his enthusiasm and humour.

Other miscellany; organising a meeting for Virginia Tilley whilst she is in Melbourne on the occupied territories of Palestine, have had Naughty rat return from removing a benign tumour which weighed over 10% of her mass. Have spurned another offer from a certain IT company, and am interviewing Marc Miller for the next issue of RPG Review.

What's so bad about certain company to 'spurn' their offer?

Oh nothing in particular - it's just that the particular systems engineering role they were offering involved a lot of programming, which I wasn't interested in.

Although something like this would lead me to reconsider. That's a little harsh, imo,

You certainly may, and they are graciously received. I rather suspect you would have liked MOB....
