Father Bob, Zero Emissions, Vic Secular Lobby

Over the past few weeks I've been organising a fundraising concert for the Father Bob Macguire Foundation, named after the well-known anti-establishment Catholic priest, well-loved for his community work and his earthy humour (as evident by his final service). Bob himself will be in attendance at this concert of course, which will be held at the Unitarian Church Hall on July 1st at 11am - come along.

Also on Unitarian issues, last Sunday week's address was by Peter Castaldo, speaking on Beyond Zero Emissions, a practical-minded, engineering orientated group who have a well-considered plan for a zero-carbon emissions Australia. My service for Peter's address included quotes from Ray Bradbury, Clive Hamilton, and Margaret Thatcher (yes, you read that right). Peter also intends to develop a several part documentary on the issue, and I'll be helping him out with that as well.

Last Saturday gave an extensive presentation to a meeting of the Victorian Secular Lobby on the parliamentary inquiry into abuses by members of the clergy. Also, in a surprise move, the High Court has upheld Ron Williams's claim that the National Schools Chaplaincy Programme is unconstitutional on the grounds of funding arrangements. The fact that the "no religious test" clause was not supported because chaplains are employed by the Scripture Union Queensland rather than the Commonwealth as such is, of course, utter chicanery.

Neglected to mention this little gem with a Ray Bradbury reference.

Yes, I know... Amazing isn't it?

Mind you, I also have Milton Friedman saying that economic externalities can only be decided collectively, and Rupert Murodch promising that his entire production would be carbon neutral by 2010.
