Home Ownership, Socialising, Gaming

Settlement for our new home in Willsmere estate occurred less than half and hour ago. Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] seedy_girl for awesome legal liaison. The Mortgage Gallery did a fine job as well in securing the modest loan required. I have a set of photos [01 .. 09] of our new home, albeit with the former tenants furnishings. We have the joy of moving all our stuff (my god, how many books do we have?) later this week.

Because I am sometimes forgetful (or rather, I squeeze in an LJ 'blog in between of doing several other things), I neglected to mention was a delightful time I had with [livejournal.com profile] a_carnal_mink and friends a few weeks back. Apropos such events, I also had the delight of a visit from [personal profile] discordia13 and [livejournal.com profile] delicious_irony whom I hadn't seen for many years, and likewise a gathering at Polly's for Brendan E's birthday which included an ex-fiancée from some twenty years ago (yes, I do have a past, honest). It was all quite enjoyable.

On Sunday ran a game of GURPS Krononauts which involved taking the PCs back to pre-revolution Paris in order to prevent an 'incorrect' version of D'Alembert's Dream from being written; with influence from the dastardly Adam Weishaupt! This was the third game I ran this week; the other two being Fantasy Australia on Thursday (which combined a Call of Cthulhu adventure - Pride Of Yirrimburra - with an AD&D Dark Sun adventure - Arcane Shadows) and long-continuing RuneQuest game last Sunday and this Sunday coming.

Does the new home have a Pit of Despair? I've always wanted a Pit of Despair, but unfortunately they don't come standard in Vermont.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well there's apparently plenty of ghost stories about the place. After it, it is the former lunatic asylum.

Great place for Call of Cthulhu games...

[identity profile] severina-242.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Can I bring over my ghost hunting gear?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh please do! It's been years since I've had such an encounter :)

[identity profile] trayce.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Gosh them's fancy digs. Where's Willsmere estate?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Kew!

I know, they look fancy, but it was surprisingly inexpensive.

[identity profile] trayce.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh of course the old asylum :) Awesome building.

[identity profile] a-carnal-mink.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:28 am (UTC)(link)

"...it was surprisingly inexpensive."

It's haunted.

;)

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed, apparently some people are put off with the idea of moving into a haunted asylum.

For us, it was a bonus.

I reckon a selection of Melbourne g*wths should take over the place, one at a time :)

[identity profile] mireille21.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I see the answer to my question in other people's comments :P
When I was first looking, amongst my choices included an old abbatoir site, Pentridge apartments or an asylum. My preference was for abbatoir, although in the end I ended up getting a completely independent house not related to any of the above, and I think I'm just as glad.

[identity profile] a-carnal-mink.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)

Imagine the key parties!

FWIW, D and I have agreed that we could never live in any places converted from things such as asylums, prisons, et al. You and E are, now, officially "Gunga Din" to us. :)

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Imagine the key parties!

Oh, you are such a carnal mink! :)

You and E are, now, officially "Gunga Din" to us.

As such people would say: "Fell from the sky, got stuck in a date palm."

[identity profile] a-carnal-mink.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:29 am (UTC)(link)

Congratulations, homeowners!

[identity profile] strang-er.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 04:42 am (UTC)(link)

Congratulations on taking over the asylum.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
If I ever get elected to political office again, they'll be saying that as well...

[identity profile] stephbg.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome to home ownership with bonus institutionalisation.

[identity profile] mireille21.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats on the house! Home ownership is fun. I have no idea where Willsmere is though, sounds like a newly invented suburb.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Willmere is the name for the old Kew Asylum, next to the Yarra Bend Blvd.

[identity profile] mireille21.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I knew it had a ring of familiarity about it. That should be a nice area for you, and hopefully with some good city views as well.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the city views are quite wonderful. The setting sun goes over the city itself and the immediate area westwards is the Yarra Bend park, then over Fairfield golf course etc.

Damned if I can find any photos online with it tho'... Hmmm.. I must remedy that!

[identity profile] severina-242.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats on shaking off the rent shackles and hello to telling kids to "get off your damn lawn!!"

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Our personal patch of lawn (like the others) is tiny.

Now the collective space and neighbouring public parkland... Well, that's massive.

When are you coming over?

[identity profile] severina-242.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
When will you be in and do you need help?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
We're moving in tomorrow and Friday.. And maybe some of Saturday! We're doing pretty well so far in terms of hands, but if you're feeling keen...

[identity profile] severina-242.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'll let you know if I'm available on Sat - I could come and help unpack

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
You're awesome. Give us a call :)

[identity profile] severina-242.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I would if I had your current number - send it to me, ya slacker ;-)

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
0432 255 208

[identity profile] lokicarbis.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on your new home!

[identity profile] discordia13.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
Grats!
Next time we are in the area we will definitely have to drop in.

[identity profile] jadine.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Looks nice. Plus the bonus insane ghosts - even more fun than the regular kind!

On the floorplan, I assume "Ens" would be Ensuite - but what's BIR or BR in the closets?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
One of the interesting things about Kew Asylum was that it was very "popular" among cricket players...

Ens is indeed ensuite, BIR is built-in-robes and BR is bathrobes.

[identity profile] pmax3.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Your house is amazingly beautiful ^_^

Congratulations... I wish it brings you loads of happiness in the days ahead :)

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Why thanks Blue Dog... In many ways the place has a good combination of features. Surrounded by natural environs, "old-fashioned" facilities, and modern living quarters. It should be quite a pleasant lifestyle..

[identity profile] cptjohnc.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats on the new home!

[identity profile] must-sew-faster.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely new home. Any plans to change from 'realtor-inspired: paint all walls white' to some colors?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh nice thought (no, it didn't even cross my mind)... I'm quite partial to off-whites (like cream). [livejournal.com profile] caseopaya insists on no pink or bright yellow. Apart from that..

[identity profile] txxxpxx.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats!! That is very exciting.

Looking forward to seeing it irl.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
There will be many, many, champagne breakfasts in such an abode, I am sure.

Mind you it's a bugger to get to. Nice for people who enjoy their private and secluded lifestyles..

[identity profile] loreleilove.livejournal.com 2010-03-11 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
congrats on the new house! that's really exciting.
