Freedom!

I've resigned as President, as an executive member, as the Media person and web developer and even as a member for Prosper Australia. This is, mind, having finished a politicians "re-education" pack, a "simple message" leaflet, three websites and giving necessary details for staff members to organise an event.

This is largely due to the inability of one (almost full-time) individual in the organisation to give clear instructions on what they wanted in areas of their responsibility, and their refusual to take direction from others when they had the authority to do so.

So rather than engage in what would be the equivalent of a long and portracted IR dispute, I simply left the organisation. It is probably easier to implement the ideas of Henry George outside the organisation nominally designed for such a purpose.

This does mean that I currently have no permanent work. Financially I am more than OK however; there is close to $10K in my savings account, I have another $20K in "incoming income" (invoices, loans etc) and my rent is paid for the next nine months.

Summer days approach ;-)

Enjoy the summer. Wander, discover and delight in what I hope will be pleasent days.

Sounds like some relaxation in your future...

I have enough unfinished projects and future plans to do the things that I want to do rather than engage with incompetents. Life's too short for that sort of nonsense.

Besides, there's always plenty of opportunity on the 'net instead....

But first, I have some computer games to finish (kindly and opportunely purchased by [livejournal.com profile] caseopaya

Oh lordy.

I think I'd rather donate ;-)

I could grow a super-thin highly waxed mo, wear some 16th century dapper clothes, carry my rapier around and describe myself as Senhor Leonardo dos Lafayette.

Hey, if you wanna sponsor me, go for it :) http://www.movember.com.au/au/sponsor My team's rego number is 9561.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:44 am (UTC)(link)

Oh, I thoroughly intend to. I must confess that part of the inspiration to "cut and run" rather than "stay the course" had to do with seasonal adjustments.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:53 am (UTC)(link)

Quite the opposite really. Catharsis.

There's some good people whom I can still work with and was intending to do so anyway. We have plans.

"We have plans."

You will need that Mo' to tweak evilly as you plot and scheme then! ;-)

Good for you re bailing out of your untenable work situation. Take some deep breaths and enjoy your Catharsis.

I can think of worse ways to spend the summer.

A friend of mine quit his job last spring and has since spent his time (and savings) wandering around the States, looking for old highway signs, retracing historic highways, posting handmade replica shields for old U. S. highways and so on. His journal has been a fascinating travelogue if you're into that sort of thing, even if he's wrecked two cars in the process. ;-)

I'm enormously impressed that you have paid your rent 9 months in advance.... Why???

I agree life is too short for putting up with that kind of crap!

[identity profile] catbiscuit.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well have yourself an awesome bunch of time to do with as you'd like. :)

I wish I was that prepared when my scholarship income stopped. Although, perhaps I could have afforded a lack of income for slightly longer -- I've already payed off half my debt in 2 months, but have made absolutely no progerss on my thesis whatsoever.

I could grow a super-thin highly waxed mo, wear some 16th century dapper clothes, carry my rapier around and describe myself as Senhor Leonardo dos Lafayette.

I approve. Out of theme, but perhaps you need to get a persian cat too. Would that mix well with a bunny rabbit and rats though?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 06:45 am (UTC)(link)

Indeed. It's in the venacular.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 06:53 am (UTC)(link)

*looks at completed thesis that still needs 15,000 words trimmed*

Would that mix well with a bunny rabbit and rats though?

Unfortunately I suspect not. Don't tell [livejournal.com profile] caseopaya tho'; she was looking at kittens today.

After the guinea pigs, that was.

Damn flat is turning into a menagerie.

You will need that Mo' to tweak evilly as you plot and scheme then! ;-)

That mental image did come to mind! ;-)

Good for you re bailing out of your untenable work situation.

I spent some time weighing up the options. The fact is I can still achieve what I want to through different means and without the problems.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:07 am (UTC)(link)

What a great journal.

I spent some time way back in 1996 going nomad and it was a lot of fun. Didn't wreck any cars tho'.

Although I reckon [livejournal.com profile] recumbenteer wins the dedicated "I'm quitting work and travelling" award.

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:11 am (UTC)(link)

Well, we wanted the flat and we had the money so therefore.....

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 07:13 am (UTC)(link)

It's an extraordinary good feeling...

"Mission Accomplished" indeed!

[identity profile] cinematic.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 10:39 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)

turning!?!

Lords of summer?

[identity profile] tcpip.livejournal.com 2006-10-28 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
turning!?!

Point.

Lords of summer?

Well, it's better than being a Lord of Sumer. Those gods send you on quite a wild goose chase.
