Well, Latin is the root of the Romance languages (Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Romanian etc) but not the Germanic languages with languages like English and Esperanto being half-Romance, half-Germanic.

Latin conjugation is also pretty difficult as the famous Monty Python scene illustrates so well...
