There are those who are very keen and go from lvl1 to 8 in a week (it takes about 35-40 hours of active play).
Then there are those who play a bit more casually, just integrating the game with their journeys with the occasional detour and discovery of an interesting site.
If you're the type that likes exercise it can be combined quite well with a stop-start morning run :)
But don't get attached to your portals - they will be taken down, just as easily as you take down others.
