Rat Recycling, 40 Times Two, Leadership

Sadly Trouble rat died on Wednesday, at the ripe old age of 2 years, 7 months and 2 weeks. His decline was quite rapid, and he seemed very aware of what was happening. A gregarious and portly boy, he was the last of the three brothers that we've had in our house in recent years. Not wanting young Rascal to be alone on Sunday we acquired two new boys, Riff-Raff and Nomand aged 10 weeks and 6 weeks.

Went to Richard O'B's fortieth birthday on Saturday afternoon; a pleasant gathering and a good opportunity to discuss politics (his family were deeply involved in the NSW Left). Naturally enough we had a few things to say about the debacle that was the NSW election. That evening it was [livejournal.com profile] caseopaya's 40th birthday (Richie and caseopaya were born less than two hours apart in the same suburb!). We went to Bistro D'Orsay, which was crowded, but due to the beautiful high ceilings, not noisy. The service and the house wine was very good, but I recommend giving the over-cooked gnocchi (it was like gnocchi soup) a very wide berth. Post-dinner drinks was at Lustre, a very pleasant late-drinking establishment.

On Sunday gave a presentation at The Philosophy Forum on The Philosophy of Leadership, which took great pains to emphasise the social dialectics between leaders and followers (which is very much like the master-slave dialectic in Hegel), as well as engaging in Weber's sociology of power (traditional, bureaucratic, charismatic) and contemporary management theory in concepts and behaviour. I am very impressed with the continued high attendence at the Forum and the quality of the participants.

Yeah, they're setting in very well...

Trouble is in the garden contributing to the production of parsley, so in a sense it does have a Soylent Green aspect.

"Rats! It's made from rats! Soylent green is rats!"

Glad to hear it!

As for the parsley production, I consider that entirely fitting, myself. It was just the somewhat more... direct connotation that was cause for pause. *smile*
